Ask A Question
Last updated: 4 October 2026
PetRascal is an online shop selling pet accessories to customers in the United States. When you browse our site, place an order or get in touch, you trust us with some of your personal details. This page explains in plain words what we collect, why we need it, who sees it and what control you have over it.
PetRascal is run from the United Kingdom, so we look after your information under UK data protection law, which means the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We also follow the US privacy laws that apply to our customers. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean PetRascal, and “you” means anyone who visits petrascal.com or shops with us.
What information we collect
When you place an order
To get your order to your door, we need a few details from you.
- Your name and delivery address
- Your billing address
- Your email address, so we can send your order confirmation and tracking details
- Your phone number, if you choose to give one, so the courier can reach you if there is a delivery problem
- What you bought, what you paid and when
Your card details go straight to our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
When you create an account
If you open an account, we keep your name, email address, saved addresses and order history. Your password is stored scrambled, so nobody at PetRascal can read it.
When you contact us
If you email us, fill in our contact form or use live chat, we keep your name, your email address and whatever you tell us, so we can help and look back at the conversation if you get in touch again. Our live chat runs on Tawk.to, which also records basic technical details such as your browser and your rough location based on your IP address.
When you join our newsletter
We keep your email address and the date you signed up. We only send you marketing emails if you asked for them, and every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
When you leave a review or comment
We keep the name you enter, your rating, what you wrote and any photos you upload. Reviews and blog comments are public, so please don’t include anything you’d rather keep private. Your email address is never shown.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, ours records some details when you visit. These include your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages you look at and how you found us, for example through a search engine or another website. Some of this comes from cookies, which we explain further down.
How we use your information
UK law asks us to have a clear reason for every use of your personal information. Here is what we do with it and why we’re allowed to.
| What we use it for | Our reason |
|---|---|
| Processing and delivering your order, and sending confirmation and tracking emails | We need it to fulfil our contract with you |
| Handling returns, refunds and questions about your order | We need it to fulfil our contract with you |
| Running your account | We need it to fulfil our contract with you |
| Spotting fraud and keeping the site secure | It’s in our legitimate interest and yours |
| Keeping records for tax and accounting | The law requires it |
| Sending our newsletter and offers | You gave us permission, and you can take it back at any time |
| Understanding how people use the site so we can improve it | It’s in our legitimate interest, or you gave permission where cookies need it |
| Showing your review or comment on the site | You chose to post it |
Who we share it with
We only give each company what it needs to do its job, and nothing more.
- CJ Dropshipping, our fulfilment partner, receives your name, delivery address, phone number if you gave one and the items you ordered, so it can pack and ship your parcel from its US warehouse.
- Couriers and postal services receive your name and address so they can deliver your parcel.
- Stripe processes your payment and checks it for fraud.
- Tawk.to runs our live chat, if you choose to use it.
- Google Analytics shows us in overall reports how visitors use the site.
- Our website host and email service store information on our behalf.
We may also share information if the law requires it, for example with tax authorities, the police or a court. If PetRascal were ever sold or merged with another business, your information would pass to the new owner under the same protections.
We don’t sell your information
We have never sold personal information and we have no plans to. We don’t share it with anyone for targeted advertising on other websites either.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that your browser stores when you visit a website. Some keep the shop working, such as remembering what’s in your basket. Others help us understand how the site is used.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_* | PetRascal | Remembers what’s in your basket |
| wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* | PetRascal | Keeps you signed in to your account |
| sbjs_* | PetRascal | Notes how you found us, so we know which links lead to orders |
| comment_author_* | PetRascal | Remembers your name and email for your next comment, only if you tick the box |
| __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Stripe | Helps prevent fraud during payment |
| twk_uuid_*, TawkConnectionTime | Tawk.to | Keeps your live chat conversation going |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Counts visits and shows us which pages people find useful |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The shop needs its basket and checkout cookies to work, so if you block those you won’t be able to place an order.
Where your information is kept
We’re based in the UK and our partners work around the world, so your information may be stored or handled in the United Kingdom, the United States, China and other countries. CJ Dropshipping, for example, runs its systems from China even though your parcel ships from its US warehouse. When information leaves the UK, we use the safeguards UK law provides for international transfers.
How long we keep it
- Order records are kept for six years, because UK tax and accounting law requires it.
- Your account stays until you ask us to close it.
- Newsletter details stay until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address on a “do not email” list, so we never contact you by mistake.
- Messages and chats are kept for as long as we need them to help you, and no longer than two years.
- Reviews and comments stay on the site until you ask us to remove them.
- Google Analytics data is deleted automatically after 14 months.
Keeping it safe
The whole site runs over a secure, encrypted connection. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe, passwords are stored scrambled, and only the people who need your details to run the shop can see them. No website can promise perfect security, but if something ever went wrong that put your information at risk, we would tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do any of the following.
- Show you the personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that’s wrong or out of date
- Delete your information, unless the law says we have to keep it, as with order records
- Stop or limit how we use it
- Give you a copy in a format you can take to another business
- Stop sending you marketing emails
Just email us at customer@petrascal.com. We’ll reply within one month and there’s no charge. To protect your account, we may ask you to write from the email address you used with us.
If you live in the United States
Several US states, including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and Texas, give residents their own privacy rights. We offer the rights above to every customer in every state, and we’ll never charge you more or treat you differently for using them. If someone contacts us on your behalf, we may ask for proof that you’ve authorised them.
Making a complaint
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first and we’ll do our best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the attorney general or privacy regulator in your own state.
Children
Our shop is meant for adults buying for their pets. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we’ll delete them.
Links to other websites
Our pages sometimes link to other websites. Once you leave petrascal.com, their own privacy policies apply, so it’s worth reading those too.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when our shop or the law changes, and the date at the top will always show the latest version. If we make a big change that affects how we use your information, we’ll email customers who have an account with us.
Get in touch
Questions about your privacy, or anything on this page, are welcome. Email us at customer@petrascal.com and a real person will reply. We don’t have a phone line, so email is the quickest way to reach us.
